Document Actions
IJS Global, Inc., the fast-growing multi-modal freight forwarder, customs broker and non-vessel operating common carrier, said yesterday that it had acquired Transfairways BV, a Dutch logistics provider specializing in project forwarding, for an undisclosed sum.

Under the transaction, Transfairways will be integrated into the existing operations of IJS Global (Netherlands) BV. Through the acquisition, IJS Global (Netherlands) BV will offer a full range of air, ocean, land transport and logistics services ranging from express carriage and project forwarding to less-then-container load sea freight and air solutions.

Headquartered at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Transfairways was founded in 1991 by Rob Roth, who has remained both owner and director. Mr Roth will assume responsibility over current Transfairways activities in cooperation with Martin Verdonk, Country Director of IJS Global (Netherlands) BV.

One of Transfairways niches is managing the logistics of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals and personnel that need to be quickly dispatched to deliver humanitarian aid to regions of the world affected by natural disasters.

Giorgio Laccona, Chairman and CEO, IJS Global, commented, "Transfairways is a nimble and seasoned service provider that will fortify our existing operations and complement our business by positioning us in segments where we did not have a presence before. We welcome Transfairways into IJS Globals growing family."

Sjoerd van Loon, IJS Globals CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa, added, "The acquisition of Transfairways enables us to accelerate the process of strengthening our Dutch operations and contributing to the overall development of the IJS Global network."
