Successful Event for Women in Transport
A valuable networking opportunity was followed by a series of motivational presentations focusing on the importance of mentoring, work/life balance, flexible working practices, the image of the industry and career progression.
The day was chaired by Gill Sheddick OBE, FTA and the group of inspirational speakers were Rebecca Jenkins - Managing Director of Lane Group, Nikki King OBE - Managing Director of Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd, Lucinda Ward - Director of Marketing & Communications at Skills for Logistics, John Harvey CBE, Chairman of Keswick Enterprises Ltd., Susan Chappelhow, HGV driver at RL Chappelow, Dr. Michelle Ryan, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Exeter and joint author of The Glass Cliff Research Project and Pippa Attwood, General Manager - Membership and Marketing, FTA.
"Women in Transport 2006 has surpassed last year's event in terms of popularity and commitment from those working in the industry. More people requested to attend (in fact the day was oversubscribed and sadly people were turned away), more delegates attended and the call for us to continue and expand the event to encourage more women and especially men to participate next year was widely vocalized throughout the day," said Gill Sheddick OBE, Country Associate - Wales, Freight Transport Association.
"It is great to have such enthusiasm for an event - yet it is vitally important that those topics discussed, in terms of continuous professional development, career progression and mentoring, are actively encouraged throughout the industry and become an integral part of working in logistics, " commented Ian Hetherington, Chief Executive of Skills for Logistics.
