A new Eastern Regional Truckwatch was launched at Suffolk Police headquarters, Martlesham, on July 25th.

It was formed after Norfolk and Suffolk Truchwatch schemes combined their efforts in the fight against haulage crime. The intention of the new body is to embrace new communication technology capable of informing those on the circulation system Police Direct at the earliest opportunity.

Chairman Tony Allen said: "Police Direct offers a far more advanced circulation opportunity that can be directed in a variety  of ways; text messages to drivers, emails to companies and all at the press of a button. Eastern Region Truckwatch will look at a number of other crime prevention initiatives and will make this a true community partnership with the police and haulage businesses."

Suffolk Police's crime reduction officer Inspector Ben Cook, added: "Joining up with Norfolk will provide a positive step towards better sharing of information. I hope that this will lead to the whole region joining up in a similar fashion to reduce haulage crime."
