Telematics May Benefit From Green Issues
Growing concerns about environment may lead to the widespread adoption of telematics, say fleet managers.
Research by Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, designed to explore fleet managers’ attitudes towards greener driving initiatives, revealed that a majority (58%) believe that telematics technology will ultimately help to make fleets more environmentally friendly.
Attitudes to the cost implications of telematics remain divided, however, with 42% of respondents saying they thought they would be able to deliver financial savings and 49% stating that cost would prevent the adoption of telematics technology within their organisations.
“Tighter budgets and green targets mean that reducing fuel consumption is now a top priority for fleet managers,” says Steve Pinchen, environmental development manager, Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions. “Our research highlights the growing recognition that telematics is a tool that can provide fleet managers with the visibility and control they need to reduce both running costs and carbon footprint of their vehicles.”
