Luminus Lights up Productivity with Masternaut

Document Actions
Housing Association Luminus Group has opted for the latest in web-based satellite vehicle tracking services from Masternaut Three X for its entire fleet of 154 vans and minibuses.
Startup was in January 2008 and already Luminus is seeing productivity gains of  10 to 15 per cent. Masternaut will deliver important real-time and historic information to enable the association to improve the overall management of its  business and pass on the benefit of improved service levels to its customers.

Luminus provides homes to over 30,000 people and has a mobile  multi-skilled direct labour force including its own specialist gas engineering  division for dealing with installation, maintenance and repairs on its housing  stock. To optimise its operations the association investigated telemetry  solutions that would help it improve the use of its vehicles, reduce its carbon  footprint and provide lone worker security.

Luminus chose  Masternaut from a list of contenders for its ease of use, adaptability and host  of expansion possibilities, and its simple integration with its back office and  PDA-based engineering management systems used by supervisors. Being able to link  into Masternaut via the PDAs is a feature that is also being put to good use by  supervisors.

"We realized that choosing the right tracking system  would be difficult but Masternaut appeared to be the obvious choice. The others  were either too complicated or lacked the functions and features we required. We  chose Masternaut because it provided a simple web-browser based interface as  well as provided a platform we could develop for future applications," says  Sharon Grant, Procurement Manager, Luminus Group.

Luminus is  currently using Masternaut to generate reports for tracking start and finish  times and monitoring driving speed. This information is encouraging better  driving styles and is reducing fuel bills. The usefulness of the live on-screen  tracking is also proving beneficial as managers can see vehicle movements in  real-time and are able to see when the engineers have safely returned home.

"By using any Internet-linked PC or PDA we can see exactly where  our vehicles are at any time and this also allows us to direct additional staff  who are nearby should a colleague require back up. We've also used the system to dispute road traffic fines as we are able to prove that our vehicle was not in the area on the day that the fine was issued," adds Sharon Grant.
