TIP Trailer Services launch "one-stop-shop" trailer tracking solution
Leading UK trailer rental company TIP Trailer Services has announced the launch of an innovative new range of VeriWise™ solutions, which will be commercially available from April 2008.
These new solutions focus on improving five critical business areas in the transport industry: fleet utilisation, maintenance and up-time, on-time deliveries, freight and fleet security, and cold chain freight quality.
The solutions are based upon advanced technology that is customised specifically for trailers, but can also be installed on containers, swapbodies and rail cars. John Murray, Managing Director. TIP Trailer Service, UK & Ireland, said "Our new modem has a range of wireless sensors that communicate with critical elements of the trailer like the reefer controller, reefer van temperature, braking systems, door, locks, reinforced curtains and truck identification. It is also designed to be standard fitted on new trailer equipment in the production process. Now, customers simply tick a box for modem activation on a new trailer order form. In addition, all of our technology has been tested to withstand the harsh industrial environment our customers operate in, making it the first telematics product tested to the same conditions as trailer braking systems!"
A key feature of the new modem technology is protocol integration with the trailer’s brake controller, providing useful EBS diagnostics such as brake condition, driver braking behaviour, speed and load, further improving maintenance planning and safety. The modem is compatible with braking systems from multiple manufacturers, but was developed jointly with leading commercial vehicle braking experts, KNORR-Bremse SfN.
The modem can also integrate with reefer engine controllers for instant access to reefer diagnostics such as set point, engine running hours, fuel level and shutdown alarm codes. Accessing these valuable diagnostics remotely helps hauliers and logistic companies to prevent equipment breakdown, as well as schedule services based on actual reefer engine condition. This integration was made possible through collaboration with global transport refrigeration manufacturers’ Carrier Transicold and Thermo King.
"Our telematics solutions draw on insights and hands-on experience gained from decades in the transportation sector," commented John Murray, "GE, with VeriWise, has 150,000 modem units activated globally, whilst TIP Trailer Services, has been operating for more than 40 years, with more than 75,000 trailers on the road and locations in over 20 European countries."
"We provide a one-stop-shop by offering extra services that complement and support our solutions," said John Murray. "These include equipment financing, warranties, a helpdesk that is open 24/7 and in multiple languages, an extensive Pan-European maintenance workshop and mobile van network, fleet consultancy experts, and police incident response and active asset monitoring services for high value loads provided by EUROWATCH."
"We like to see ourselves as a business partner to our customers. We want to help them achieve their growth objectives, and we see VeriWise™ as an enabler for this as our solutions can adapt to our customers’ specific supply chain needs. It is a single system that can be used for multiple asset types. It is available on short-term rented trailers from TIP to help fill the gap, and it can be upgraded easily to any of the five new solutions without any further investment in technology. These unique features make VeriWise™ a smart and flexible option that will set new standards in customer service," concluded John Murray.
