Sat Nav Low Bridge Solution
For over two years Landis Media Ltd. a UK based GIS company have been providing Lorry, HGV, LGV, bus, coach and motor-home drivers with a market leading “Low Bridge Warning Solution” for satellite navigation devices.
The driver simply buys the CD ROM or downloads the solution to his PC and then uses software to install the solution data pack onto the sat-nav. This takes about 20 min’s and all the leading brands of sat-nav are supported: TomTom, Garmin, Navman, Sony, Destinator, HP as well as desktop versions for Google and Autoroute.
Howard Williams MD of Landis Media said today; “for some time we have been planning the next developments to our solutions, which are already essential tools for many UK drivers and deliver excellent value for money. We recognised that the tomtompoi.net brand was no longer relevant and in fact was misleading some customers. We have replaced it with hgvsolutions.com which embodies the broad range of solutions and devices we support. As the sat-nav market develops the solutions will mature and what appears cutting edge now will be commonplace. What we concentrate on is giving immediate benefits to professional drivers so they can be helped in planning and driving the route, be alerted to potential hazards and avoid them and finally drive more safely. Our bridge alert system will always warn a driver as a bridge approaches even in bad weather, fog or around a corner.”
Coinciding with the re-branding is the launch of a new “Fleet & Low Bridge Solution” to replace the best selling “Low Bridge Solution”. Still containing over 3,500 Low Bridges this new solution has been improved to make it easier to install and setup. The driver can now adjust the bridge warnings based on either speed or distance and the cab height can be quickly altered to match any commercial vehicle in the UK as they are all provided. The bridge warnings and heights are shown in both Imperial (Feet & inches) and Metric (metres and cm) to suit the drivers preference. The system gives both visual and audible warning for any approaching bridges as well as a spoken bridge height warning on all tomtom devices. Also included to complement the bridge data are other useful locations: Motorway Services, LPG refills, Truck Stops, HGV lay-bys, Service Stations, Ports & Harbours and all UK Supermarkets. All of this is provided as well as detailed instructions, technical support and data updates during the year for under £20.
On top of this hgvsolutions.com have also launched another new product called the “HGV Services & Fuel Pack”. This has over 50,000 different locations within it providing the reliable and specific information that large vehicle drivers require. On the data pack is a UK wide service station category, including Morrison’s, BP, Esso etc but with indication of which ones have HGV access, pumps and 24hr opening times. Keyfuels locations are also included within the pack, again with UK wide cover, HGV access and SMART card friendly sites. Actually requested by the customers is a huge collection of Industrial Estates, Industrial parks, Shopping Estates, Trading Estates, Business Parks etc, as so many drivers said they need them. Finally there are up to date locations for all major UK supermarkets including ASDA, Morrisons, Tesco, Waitrose, Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury. This essential add-on pack to help drivers plan their journeys is just £7.

Legal Brief

Well I also see that they have moved away from only the tomtoms, I came accross them here www.tomtompoi.net and they also ran www.tomtomfree.com It seems that it was enough of a hit beacause they are now www.hgvsolutions.com . Before that I just used a list from the Truckers Atlas. This has chnaged my life though, because I get warnings now in the cab well before I need to avoid anything. I look forwards to the developments over the next few years. why hasnt anyone got weights and widths yet I wonder ?
