An 18 Tonne Double First

Document Actions
First 18 tonne Isuzu is first Isuzu for Dodd’s Group.
The first production 18 tonne Isuzu ‘Forward’ truck in the UK has gone into service with Sittingbourne based company The Dodd’s Group. Working on pallet deliveries in Kent and the southeast, it’s one of the company's Palletforce fleet, handling overnight palletised freight distribution.

Not only is this the first 18 tonne Isuzu in the UK, it is also the first Isuzu ever to feature in the Dodd’s national distribution fleet that currently consists of more than 100 vehicles - from vans to 44 tonne combinations, and 200 trailers.

Explaining the decision to specify Isuzu for the first time, David Pink, Managing Director at The Dodd’s Group said, “We were invited to attend the launch of the new Isuzu ‘Forward’ range in 2008 and were impressed by Isuzu’s Managing Director Nikki King and her company's vision and plans for the future, especially at the higher weight range of 18 tonnes. We had a requirement for a new 18 tonner so decided to try Isuzu for the first time.”

“Isuzu is a mainstream recognised global brand and our faith in them has been substantiated as the truck is performing well and the driver in particular is impressed by its driving characteristics and comfort,” added David Pink.

The Isuzu ‘Forward’ F180.260 18 tonne chassis cab operated by Dodd’s Group has been specified with a 27ft Boalloy Fastruck curtainsided body featuring a rear-mounted Anteo tuckaway tail lift. The vehicle, which is covering over 350kms a day, is part of a 12 strong, 18 tonne fleet operating on palletised distribution and is supported by a five-year repair and maintenance contract through local Isuzu dealer MC Truck & Bus in Maidstone, Kent.

The new Isuzu features Isuzu’s own turbocharged and intercooled 6-cylinder diesel engine, providing 191Kw (260bhp) power output at 2400rpm. With EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and 6-speed manual transmission as standard, the Isuzu 18 tonner also features the new Isuzu ‘Hexapod’ design cab that is packed with ‘standard’ equipment and is one of the roomiest day/rest cabs currently available on any vehicle in the UK at this weight range.

Furthermore all Isuzu ‘Forward’ vehicles come with a 3-year unlimited mileage warranty that includes 3-years free roadside assistance and recovery.

“At the launch of the ‘Forward’ range last year we anticipated introducing the 18 tonne range in time for 2009 and it’s especially pleasing to see a company new to Isuzu take delivery of the first of the range. Impressive in appearance, features and “on-the-road” performance, the new Isuzu 18 tonners will certainly turn heads, with more new customers taking their first look at the top-of-the-range Isuzu’s,” said Keith Child, Marketing Director at Isuzu Truck UK.
