Mercedes Vito Adds Lustre to Shine!

Document Actions
A polished new performer is helping a Derbyshire company to keep Britain’s cars in sparkling condition.
Mobile cosmetic repair and valeting company Shine! took delivery of its latest Mercedes-Benz Vito van from Birmingham dealer Gerard Mann Commercials.

The Long-bodied Vito 111CDI has joined a fleet of 80 Vitos and Mercedes A-Class cars which are used by the company’s network of technicians throughout Britain and Northern Ireland.

“We’re in the image business and the Mercedes-Benz brand is probably the strongest and most recognisable of all automotive manufacturers,” declares Managing Director Paul Normyle, who established Shine! in 2002. The company, which is based Rawdon Business Park, Moira, near Ashby de la Zouch, now employs 74 people.

Shine! brings the bodyshop to its customer’s doorstep, whether at their home or place of work. Its uniformed specialists offer either a comprehensive valeting service or are fully trained and certified to repair dents, stone chips, scratches and bumper/alloy wheel scuffs. All on-site procedures conform to the relevant environmental and Health & Safety laws, with repairs guaranteed for three years.

The company has several national contracts, including one with Halfords, and has been approved by Mercedes-Benz UK for its Smart Repair Cover warranty scheme.

Shine!’s A-Class cars are used by its valeting team, while the Vito 111CDIs are racked out by Bott, of Ashby-de-la-Zouch to carry all the equipment needed by its bodywork repair technicians. The vans are fitted with uprated suspensions at the Mercedes-Benz factory, allowing them to carry payloads of nearly one tonne with ease.

Mr Normyle continues: “After brand image, reliability is probably the most important things to us. Over the past three years we’ve only had 1.4 ‘down days’ with our Vitos, which I think is amazing.

“The fact that the previous 125,000-mile limit on the Vito’s three-year warranty was removed last year doesn’t make a great deal of different to us, as our vans only average 30,000 miles a year, but the 12 -year anti-corrosion perforation warranty is a real bonus. We keep our vehicles for an average of six years and it’s crucial, given our business, that they look good at all times.

“Our technicians also like the fact that the Vito is comfortable and car-like to drive, with a tight turning circle. We have a lot of vehicles in London, where navigating through the traffic is always a challenge, but the Vito makes light work of this.”

The Mercedes Vito boasts a range of standard features more usually associated with a luxury car. These include electric windows, remote central locking with ‘comfort’ closing and a CD-radio.

Safety is another important consideration, with Shine! always conscious of its Duty of Care obligations to employees. The Vito bristles with class-leading safety features, including the Adaptive ESP® anti-skid program and ABS anti-lock brakes.
