TA Wells draws on Actros strength
Tipper operator TA Wells has celebrated its 25th anniversary in business by treating itself to another Mercedes-Benz eight-wheeler.
Its arrival means Wells now operates 11 trucks, every one an 8x4 tipper and every one sporting a three-pointed star. The latest, an Actros 3236K, is powered by a 360hp BlueTec® Euro 5 SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) engine and fitted with a robust Charlton steel body.
TA Wells is a waste disposal and general haulage contractor to the construction industry. The operation is heavily focused on muckaway duties – moving rubble and waste from sites – but the firm also delivers aggregates such as sand, ballast, gravel, and recycled materials.
“It’s rough, tough work so strength and durability is much more important to us than squeezing every last kilogram of payload from a truck,” says Managing Director Terry Wells.
“The Actros is one of the most robust tipper chassis you can buy and with the heavy-duty body it makes for a very rugged combination.”
Hounslow-based TA Wells buys its trucks from Heathrow dealer Rygor Commercials and works across west and central London, and as far afield as Reading, Watford, and Dorking.
Its first Mercedes entered service in 1988 and it has remained loyal to the three-pointed star ever since.
Mr Wells says: “We maintain our trucks in-house but rely on Rygor for parts and any warranty work. The dealer’s staff are very experienced and helpful.”
And he continues: “I’m a big fan of the Actros. Build quality is excellent and it has a real appetite for work, even after years of service – we’ve just sold the last of our older trucks, which did not comply with the new Low Emission Zone rules, and were approached by people from all over the world wanting to buy them. They eventually went to an operator in Poland, and for a good price too.”
