In 19 years of trading, C. Winfield Plant Services based in Wombourne, Staffordshire, have gained a reputation for using high quality vehicles and equipment and delivering a top class service to their customers.
According to Chris Winfield, Proprietor and Chris Nott, Transport Manager, all their work has been gained by personal referrals from their customers and word of mouth – they have never had to advertise.

Operating a fleet of high specification Volvo FH tractor units has helped the company to maintain its positive image for top class quality. The latest addition to the 14-strong fleet is an FH-500, 6x4 tractor unit. Plated at 100 tonnes GCW and coupled to a four-axle Faymonville step-frame trailer, the exceptionally smartly turned out Volvo-powered outfit usually operates at 80 tonnes gross for STGO Cat 2 duties.

The truck was purchased from Volvo Dealer Hartshorne Motor Services Ltd. Hartshorne has been supplying C Winfield Plant for 19 years from their Pensnett depot, which is located only 1.5 miles from Wombourne.

Says Chris, “We continue to buy Volvo due to the exceptional level of service we get from the Dealer. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We started 19 years ago with a second-hand Volvo, from Hartshorne and our fleet now comprises 80% Volvo and growing. In fact, we’ve another four on order from them.”

Of the FH’s comprehensive heavy haulage specification, Chris says, ”The bogie on the tractor is rated at 26 tonnes which gives us much better axle tolerance at 80 tonnes compared with a 6x2. It gives the driver greater leeway when loading. The manoeuvrability is excellent and the ride quality with the rear air suspension is great for the driver.”

Chris concluded, “From my point of view the best feature of the truck is the build quality and from the drivers’ point of view, the cab environment. It’s a nice place to be. When we gave the drivers’ a choice of cab, all of them have chosen the Globetrotter XL.”

The FH is an additional truck in the growing fleet and carries road surfacing equipment, industrial fork lift trucks, fabrications, piling rigs, mobile cranes, large excavators and ADT’s. From time to time, they also transport Volvo Construction Equipment, notably excavators and dump trucks.
