Harlequin Reaches New Heights With Sprinter

Document Actions
Mercedes-Benz dealer H and L Garages landed a tall order from a leading office furniture supplier in the form of a new-generation Sprinter van with new ‘super-high’ roof.
Scunthorpe-based Harlequin Office Furniture is using its latest Mercedes Sprinter 311CDI Extra Long van to make deliveries nationwide.

The super-high roof makes the Sprinter the tallest van in its class. Coupled with the Extra Long body length, it is proving a massive bonus for Harlequin, which is using the additional space to increase operational efficiency.

The 3.5-tonne vehicle offers a whopping 17 cubic metres of interior load volume. With a loading length of 4.7 metres and an interior height of more than 2.1 metres, it is ideal for the job of furniture distribution according to Harlequin Chairman Terry Teesdale.

“A lot of our products are around six feet (1.83 metres) high and thanks to the extra roof height these can be stood up in the new van rather than having to be laid down flat,” he says.

“We can now carry more items for a single ‘drop’, instead of having to make a couple of journeys. For anybody who deals with domestic or commercial furniture, this is the perfect van.”

Harlequin has operated successive incarnations of the Mercedes Sprinter since the model’s launch in 1995. It currently has six Sprinters on the road.

The company has tried other makes of van down the years. But, says Mr Teesdale, it is the reliability and quality of the Mercedes product, coupled with competitive pricing and H and L Garages’ ability to service his vans overnight, so they are always available for use during the day, which underpins his loyalty to the three-pointed star.

“The Sprinter is an ideal workhorse and trouble-free,” he says. “With its latest range Mercedes-Benz has again raised the bar to another level and we will now be looking to standardise our fleet on this model.”

In addition to the new super-high roof option, the new-generation Sprinter boasts best-in-class side-loading door widths, outstanding ergonomics and comfort, and a powerful and clean CDI diesel engine line-up, and an advanced new version of the remarkable ESP® anti-skid system called Adaptive ESP®.
