Latest Advice on Fuel Efficiency Launched at CV Show

Document Actions
The DfT sponsored Freight Best Practice programme today launched its new and improved guide on fuel management for the fleet sector, having consulted with industry. Launched at the Commercial Vehicle (CV) show, the guide features new information on issues such as alternative fuels and telematics.

The Fuel Management Guide has become a firm favourite among fleet operators over the years, demonstrating how to set up a fuel management programme. Due to its popularity and marked success, the FBP team has developed an updated version with the help of industry. The free guide explains to freight operators the benefits of managing fuel consumption, as well as keeping them abreast of new developments in technology.

Among the new features in the guide are:

  • User friendly checklists listing the key points users need to include in a fuel management programme
  • Case studies from companies such as Exel and Thorntons Plc
  • Telematics advances
  • The latest on alternative fuels

The guide takes operators through the process of managing their fuel consumption step-by-step  from selecting Key Performance Indicators through to setting targets. It also suggests ideas such as appointing a  "Fuel Champion"  a person within a company who is appointed to be responsible for the project, and who can be the central point of information on the programme, as well as the person tracking its progress.

John Hix, spokesperson for the Freight Best Practice programme said: "We are delighted to launch the new and improved Fuel Management Guide, and hope that operators and drivers will take the opportunity to look into the savings they can make by putting in place very simple measures. We are keen to offer all the help and advice we can towards improved fuel management programmes in organisations across the country, and we are confident that the new additions and updates in our guide will contribute towards this. If operators miss out on the chance to pick up a copy at the CV show, the guide can be downloaded  along with any others from the programme  free of charge online at www.freightbestpractice.org.uk or by ordering through the Hotline, 0845 877 0 877.

We are particularly keen to hear feedback from users - so let us know what you find helpful about the guide, and how you get on implementing a fuel management programme."
