Masternaut Keeps Track of D Morgan's Tippers

Document Actions
D Morgan Plc, the civil engineering, construction and plant hire company that specialise in land remediation, has equipped their fleet of heavy goods tipper vehicles with an advanced vehicle tracking and resource management solution from Masternaut.

Via the Web, Masternaut enables transport managers to track the movement of vehicles in real time and logs all activities for performance monitoring. The system also keeps track of driver activities in order to comply with Working Time legislation and D Morgan's own strict health and safety policy.

The company owns over one hundred heavy plant vehicles which are used on the company's own projects; which range from specialist land remediation for the UK Atomic Energy Authority to the creation of a new forest in Manchester for the Forestry Commission, as well as being available for hire. Masternaut uniquely identifies each vehicle and calculates its position by GPS, transmits this information via GPRS to a central server that can then be accessed in real time by any web enabled PC. The record of the vehicles position is displayed using Microsoft MapPoint® online street mapping in order to place the information into a real world context.

"We initially purchased the Masternaut system to improve our security and reduce the risk to the business of stolen equipment." Said John Dennan, Director. "This was a good decision which has had a significant impact on our insurance premiums, however this is only one of the benefits the system has delivered including improved business efficiencies."

Masternaut provides a safe method of communication and by monitoring the position of each vehicle D Morgan is able to respond efficiently to external factors that may impact on the movement of the fleet, for example road works or traffic jams, or alterations to the work schedule. The Masternaut service also provides e-mailed daily activity reports. These can be used to calculate vehicle mileage for preventative maintenance, the calculation of hire charges, and for monitoring driver hours to ensure Working Time compliance.

"Masternaut enables us to communicate safely with our drivers, react quickly when required and therefore gain the maximum return from our fleet." Said Daniel Rowe, Transport Supervisor.
