Vehicle rental and haulage operator, Hampson Group has added specialist body builder, McComb Coachworks to its portfolio of business interests.

McComb has been trading for over 50 years, building high quality and bespoke vehicle bodies for vans and trucks. The company offers a full design, fabrication and paint shop service for dropside, box, curtainside, transporter and tipper bodies. Hampsons says, more specialised bodies can be produced such as racing car transporters.

Hampsons say that McComb has been trading very successfully, building bodies for councils, vehicle retailers, distribution, furniture and laundry businesses in the East of England but following the acquisition it intends to increase McComb's customer portfolio.

Hanson Group managing director, Steve Hanson says: "We are not planning to turn McComb into a mass-producing standard body builder, turning out cheap and cheerful bodies that only last 12 to18 months. We want it to continue to build top quality, long lasting, tailor-made bodies for the operator concerned about appearance, value for money and operational ease."

McComb Coachworks is the appointed agent for many manufacturers of ancillary equipment; typically including tail lifts, tipping gears, refrigeration units and cab top sleepers. Hanson continues: "McComb are able to meet a variety of specialised vehicle specifications and its expertise may be applied to the whole spectrum of vehicle applications, ranging from general goods carriage and Luton vans, to specialised tippers and full freezer GRP bodies. It also builds for gross chassis weights ranging from 3.5 to 38 tonnes.

"Supporting the body building service are extensive, modern painting and custom sign writing facilities. Additionally, McComb undertake accidental repair on any type of bodywork, working to levels of care and craftsmanship that meet and exceed the guidelines set by our professional body - the Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association (VBRA)", he concludes.
