Who knows about home-built Australian Fodens?
Mike D Asks the question on Biglorryblog
It's a Foden Jim...but not as we know it. Calling all Aussie anoraks...Mike Davies has sent this to me and says: "With all the great OZ trucks being posted lately, the Iveco PowerStar looks superb and with one of the best cabs from Europe and the best engine from the US it probably is, However, I'm trying to find more information on OZ-built Fodens (as opposed to those built at Elworth). The bonneted tractor pictured above obviously has a British S40/41 sleeper cab adapted for the job. But what I am trying to find out is exactly where they were built, were they built in any numbers and have any survived? With all this in mind I wondered if any of our mates down under could help or if the folks in Alice Springs might know? Regards Mike." Meanwhile, what i do notice is the word 'Royal' on the front of the truck above...'Royal' what? Mail?
