Tom C gets all tyred and emotional with Sharon Pattison Logistics.

Ahaa! The tilted horizon, the interesting background, the little detail on the foreground and a smart truck with beautifully-lit Michelin tyres. It could only be the work of one man. Step forward ace-snapper Tom Cunningham (for it is he). Tom's been busy visiting Hull-based haulage company Sharron Pattison Logistics which has been fitting Michelin's XDN2 Grip tyres across its fleet of heavy trucks, following a successful trial which demonstrated the new tyre's effectiveness in improving overall vehicle performance and providing increased traction to reduce wheel spin. Sharron Pattison currently has four vehicles shod with Michelin tyres, including two with the latest XDN2 Grip tyres, but plans are under way for the 14-strong fleet to make a complete transfer to Michelin, as tyre wear dictates.

According to Gary Pattison Jnr, "We had a 530hp tractor unit that was running on Bridgestone drive axle tyres. We fitted a set of Michelin XDN2 Grip tyres and without pointing out the difference to the driver, he quickly commented on how different the vehicle was handling. It was providing much more grip and there was no spinning from the drive axle - even in wet weather. Our driver could not believe that the new tyres had made such a difference," he tells Biglorryblog.

As the fleet changes over to new Michelin tyres, SPL will also be trialling Michelin's Four Lives tyre policy, which involves a process of regrooving, remoulding and regrooving again to ensure maximum mileage performance from each Michelin tyre casing. The fleet, with its 'distinctive' - you can say that again - livery (as pictured above on the Scania, superb airbrush work) and team of experienced drivers, offers a comprehensive Europe-wide haulage service with its fleet of rigid crane trucks and artics puling a range of trailers from curtainsiders and flat beds to low loaders and reefers. The XF510 has a massive Effer 1750 crane on the back with a radius of 36m. And naturally it sits on the latest Michelin tyres. Pretty impressive. Biglorryblog regular Nick Garlick also tipped me off on this monster. I'll see if we can find out more...
